Sleep affects nearly every part of daily life, from concentration and mood to energy and physical health. When poor sleep persists, it may be time to look beyond temporary fixes and explore what is keeping restorative sleep out of reach.
Helyx Health provides specialized sleep care for patients in San Francisco and throughout California. Our clinicians evaluate sleep concerns from both medical and behavioral perspectives, helping patients understand their symptoms and identify an appropriate path forward.
When should you consult a sleep specialist?
An occasional restless night is common. A professional evaluation may be helpful when sleep problems continue, affect daytime functioning, or do not improve with basic changes to your routine.
Reasons to seek help may include difficulty falling asleep, repeated nighttime waking, waking earlier than intended, loud snoring, possible breathing interruptions, persistent fatigue, an irregular sleep schedule, or anxiety about sleep. A sleep specialist can help determine whether the concern may be related to insomnia, a sleep-related breathing disorder, circadian rhythm disruption, or another factor.
Sleep concerns we evaluate
Helyx Health works with adults experiencing a range of sleep difficulties, including:
An evaluation does not assume that every symptom has the same cause. Your clinician will consider your sleep patterns, health history, daily routine, and other relevant factors before recommending next steps.
Medical and behavioral sleep care
Some patients benefit from a medical sleep evaluation. When clinically appropriate, home sleep apnea testing may be recommended to gather additional information about breathing during sleep.
Other patients may benefit from behavioral sleep treatment. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, commonly called CBT-I, is a structured treatment that addresses patterns and habits that can perpetuate insomnia. The appropriate service depends on your symptoms and clinical needs.
What to expect
Your first appointment is an opportunity to discuss what has changed, how long the problem has been occurring, and how sleep is affecting your life. Based on the assessment, your clinician may recommend behavioral treatment, additional testing, coordination with another healthcare professional, or another individualized next step.
