Build greater awareness of your emotional experiences and learn new ways to understand and respond to them in a supportive group setting. Helyx Health’s Emotional Attunement Group is led by Dr. Ahmed Tar and is currently enrolling adults for a structured 12-week program.
Group details
What is emotional attunement?
Emotional attunement involves noticing emotions, understanding the needs or experiences connected with them, and responding with greater awareness rather than automatically reacting or withdrawing. In a group setting, participants can explore these patterns, learn from shared discussion, and practice relating to their own and others’ emotions in new ways.
Participation does not require people to share more than they are ready to discuss. Dr. Tar guides the group and helps establish expectations that support respectful, purposeful participation.
What may the group address?

Group participation and outcomes vary from one person to the next.
Enrollment and screening
Prospective participants meet with Dr. Tar individually before joining, so he can explain the group, learn about the person’s goals, and determine whether the format is clinically appropriate. Because the program follows a 12-week structure, joining after the group has started is not automatic: it requires an individual conversation with Dr. Tar and may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
In-person and telehealth participation
In-person sessions are offered in San Francisco. The exact meeting address is confirmed in the enrollment information for each cohort.
Telehealth participants must be physically located in California, join from a private setting, and use the approved secure video platform. Headphones are encouraged when they improve privacy.
Insurance and self-pay
The group may be available through Cigna or Aetna when Dr. Tar, the group service, and the patient’s exact plan are all eligible. Coverage is not guaranteed, so please verify group-therapy benefits and financial responsibility before enrolling. The self-pay rate is $80 per 50-minute session.
Group safety and informed consent
Participants are expected to protect one another’s privacy, but Helyx Health cannot guarantee that another group member will maintain confidentiality. Before the program begins, Dr. Tar will explain group expectations, limits of confidentiality, attendance requirements, appropriate participation, telehealth privacy, and how concerns will be addressed.
