Anxiety can narrow a person’s life gradually. You may begin avoiding difficult conversations, social events, driving, travel, medical appointments, or opportunities at work. You may also continue doing everything expected of you while privately managing constant worry, tension, exhaustion, or fear.
Helyx Health provides personalized anxiety treatment for adults in Beverly Hills and surrounding Los Angeles communities.
Understanding your anxiety pattern
Anxiety is not identical for every patient. It may involve generalized worry, panic symptoms, fear of judgment, perfectionism, intrusive thoughts, trauma reminders, health-related fears, or intense physical sensations.
An initial assessment explores when symptoms began, how often they occur, what makes them better or worse, and how they affect sleep, work, relationships, and daily functioning. The clinician may also consider depression, trauma, ADHD, substance use, medical conditions, and medications that could influence the clinical picture.
Therapy for anxiety
Psychotherapy can help patients recognize triggers and patterns, reduce avoidance, respond differently to anxious thoughts, and build skills for managing distress. Depending on the patient and therapist, treatment may draw from CBT, ACT, mindfulness, exposure-based strategies, psychodynamic therapy, relational approaches, or trauma-focused care.
The goals are individualized. Treatment might focus on returning to avoided activities, communicating more confidently, tolerating uncertainty, navigating physical sensations, or making decisions with less interference from fear.
Psychiatric evaluation and medication
Medication management may be considered when anxiety is persistent, significantly impairing, or not improving enough with therapy alone. A psychiatric clinician reviews symptoms, health history, current medications, prior treatment, and patient preferences before recommending a plan.
Medication is not necessary for every patient, and starting a psychiatric evaluation does not obligate someone to take medication.
